We have been in this house for over a year.  I unpacked everything and had it organized in about 27 hours…no joke.  But, there’s one thing that I haven’t done yet and it’s been driving me crazy for over a year.  The blinds.  They are filthy.  Filthy and dusty.  I try to dust them, but it only makes them worse.  It just seems to move the dust around.  Gross.  But you see, I’ve put them off because I’m just overwhelmed with them.  There are 17 windows in this house and they are all adorned with dusty blinds.  But every time I walk past them I think, “Oh, mercy those things are dusty.  I need to get on top of that.” But how to do it?  Where to begin?  I am a go getter.  I am task oriented.  But this task?  It just seemed too much.

Until…until..until, earlier this week when  I came up with a game plan.  All of my thinking paid off.  Seriously, I’ve thought about these blinds all year.  (Perhaps I should have acted instead of spending my time thinking?!?)  Here’s what I came up with.  I’m going to clean my house one zone at a time, one month at a time.  I’ll deep clean, organize, dust baseboards, wash bedding, clean the blinds…whatever needs to be done in that zone.  Voila! Problem solved.

Here are my zones and months:

July: Master Bedroom (and closet)

August: Pantry/Laundry Room

September: Clayton’s Bedroom

October: Jack’s Bedroom

November: Andrew’s Bedroom

December: Playroom (You know…to make room for all the new toys.  Yes, first world problem!)

January: Guest Room

February:  Kitchen

March: Garage

April: Bathrooms

May:  Nothing will happen this month except surviving.

June: Living Room/Dining Room (These are one big room in my house.)

And then we’ll start all over with July.

Will I do each zone in one day?  Nope.  I’ll tackle 15 minutes here and 30 minutes there.  I’ll just do a little at a time.  But one thing is for sure if I don’t ever start, I’ll never finish.  Right?

What about you do you have something you’ve been putting off?  Do you have a cleaning project that needs to be done?  Better yet…what about a conversation that needs to occur?  Forgiveness and reconciliation that need to take place?  Don’t delay.  By this time next year all of my blinds will be clean and your {fill in the blank} could be over too.  You’ve got to start somewhere.  So as my mother used to say when I left for school…”Go get ’em Tiger!”
